Avisford Park Hotel has invested £300,000 in a solar and storage installation on its grounds, addressing rising energy prices and increasing guest expectations for sustainability.
The system features 308 DAS Solar 590W N-Type Bifacial panels, ground-mounted on an unused tennis court, delivering a total capacity of 163.24kWp.
It also includes two Solis S6-EH3P50K-H-EU hybrid inverters and two Dyness BF100-C100 outdoor battery cabinets, providing 200kWh of storage.
Because the hotel’s peak electricity usage does not coincide with peak sunshine hours, the energy storage system maximises self-consumption of the solar-generated electricity.
The managing director of Crest Hotels Limited, which owns Avisford Park Hotel, stated: “The hospitality industry is facing increasing pressure from rising energy costs, amongst many other challenges, whilst guests quite rightly expect businesses to demonstrate a genuine commitment to sustainability.”
UK power prices are higher than the European average and are heavily influenced by global gas prices, motivating businesses to adopt renewable energy solutions.
The £300,000 investment will allow Avisford Park Hotel to pay 5.88p per unit of electricity generated onsite over the 25-year lifespan of the solar-plus-storage system.
Although the initial cost is significant, the long-term stability and reduced expenses are key advantages.
Currently, sustainability is not always the primary driver for businesses to install renewable generation. Political shifts in the UK have led to debates over government investments in renewables.
However, installations like the one at Avisford Park Hotel, along with other commercial and industrial projects, are likely to maintain strong interest from solar developers regardless of political changes.
