The second edition of an earlier report published by Energy Positive Assets (3/3/25) shines a light on the potential for solar canopies over car parks in UK colleges and schools. It includes projections to show that car park owners and operators can save £millions in energy bills, across public and private estates. It estimates that there are more than 2m car park spaces in UK schools and colleges. Solar Car Parks in the UK: this report highlights the scale of the potential for solar in car parks as well as the value of the energy they could generate. Solar panels covering 100 car park spaces will typically generate over £90,000 worth of power pa or save £30,000 pa. This translates to annual savings of £600m pa across 2m parking spaces.
